Walnut 'Abstracta' Dining Set by Jos De Mey for Van Den Berghe-Pauvers, 1960s
Fantastic dining set from the ‘Abtracta’ series designed by Jos De Mey for Van Den Berghe-Pauvers during the 1960s. This set consists of a large extendable dining table and 8 (!) matching chairs made of walnut with a beautiful wood grain. The table can be extended thanks to a central foldable leaf which seats 8 people easily. Labeled by the maker and in very good restored condition. Rare set from first owner!

Jos De Mey (1928-2007) attended the Municipal Higher Institute of Architecture in Ghent, with none other than Gaston Eysselinck as his teacher. In the 1950s, De Mey himself became known as one of the best Belgian furniture designers, and rightly so. He worked as a designer for Van Den Berghe-Pauvers in Ghent, as well as for Luxus in Kortrijk. In 1968 he starts a successful career as a painter.
