Rare 'Abstracta' Cabinet by Jos De Mey for Van Den Berghe-Pauvers, 1960s

Rare cabinet from the ‘Abtracta’ series designed by Jos De Mey around 1960. Made of walnut with a very decorative wood grain. This model features four large drawers on the left side and shelving on the right side providing ample storage. In very good condition and comes with the original brass key. Produced in Belgium by Van Den Berghe-Pauvers and labeled by the maker.

Jos De Mey (1928-2007) attended the Municipal Higher Institute of Architecture in Ghent, with none other than Gaston Eysselinck as his teacher. In the 1950s, De Mey himself became known as one of the best Belgian furniture designers, and rightly so. He worked as a designer for Van Den Berghe-Pauvers in Ghent, as well as for Luxus in Kortrijk. In 1968 he starts a successful career as a painter.
